Everyone would love to be like Jonkoping. Everyone wants patients to be at the centre of integrated services where the boundaries of provider organisations are invisible. Healthcare leaders preach integration. So why is it so hard to do improvement work collaboratively? Is it human nature? Not invented here prejudice? Is “governance” and “assurance” strangling interagency cooperation? Is regulation forcing stand-alone solutions? Do managers just not have the necessary skills?
